Help Me Name My Character

Hey all,

After publishing my recent thriller – Shadow Fraction, I am back on track to work on my science fiction fantasy – Icarus. It is the third book in the Realm series and its first part (Fall of Titan) has been received a literary book award (thanks to you guys!).

I am having trouble deciding a name for one of my characters. Maybe you guys can help me!

A little description – He is a teenager who is curious about how the world works. He captures ants to study them and carries out weird experiments to full fill his curiosity. Like many teenagers, he loves games, steals money from his father, and hates school and gets thrown out classes far too many times. He hardly has any friends (except the creatures/animals he adores) and a twin sister he always fights with.

I have come up with a few names and I am unable to choose one. So, help me choose the name of this character by clicking here.

The one that gets most of the votes from everyone wins and the voting closes on the 31 of Aug 2022.

Free Promotions – Broken

Hello all,

This  month I have been sharing with you books from other authors. I have been fortunate enough to be supported by great folks who read and support my work.

Today’s author is Ivy Logan. She writes YA fiction that feeds her soul. Her books tell stories of women who find their strength within themselves and form the pillars of society. Her books go beyond the girl meets boy romance trope, with subtle moralistic conundrums and struggles that are beautifully, seamlessly, and passionately conveyed.

Enough said! Here is some details about her first book!

A Veil hides a world where magic still survives. In the clash between love and ambition, gateways will be torn open and everything will change. A circle of strange incidents will lay siege to Talia’s happiness….The past rears its ugly head and secrets begin to unravel.

0(0%)One sorceress changes the future to save the life of an innocent child.
Another chooses a forbidden love and a life in the shadows.
A king moves heaven and earth in his hunt for magic, tearing an innocent family apart.

Now Talia must choose between her happily ever after or righting a wrong. Will she make the ultimate sacrifice?

Free Promotions – Accusing Mr. Darcy

Hello all,

Oh wow! The weekend is almost upon us! I am bringing you some great authors this month and the next in line is Kelly Miller. What can I say? This regency romance author has made a me a fan of romance! I still do not believe it but I have read all her books which are fantastic. This award winning author brings together great characters from classics like pride and prejudice and presents them with a new twist.

Okay enough from me. Check out what Kelly has to say about one of her books.

A bit about the book!

Could Fitzwilliam Darcy harbour a shocking, sinister secret?  In this romantic mystery, the beloved couple from Jane Austen’s “Pride & Prejudice” cross paths with a ruthless killer. When faced with dire warnings against Mr. Darcy, will Elizabeth heed them or follow the dictates of her heart?

Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet count themselves among the many guests of the Kendall family, whose estate lies amidst the picturesque hills, gorges, and rocky slopes of the Peak District in Derbyshire. Elizabeth’s cousin Rose Kendall believes her dashing brother-in-law, Captain James Kendall, is Elizabeth’s ideal match. Rose’s husband, Nicholas, hopes his good friend Darcy—a rich, proud, and taciturn gentleman with a spotless reputation—will fancy one of the other eligible lady guests. News of a brutal killing at a neighbouring estate sends a wave of shock through the genial group of friends and family. When one of the Kendalls’ guests is attacked, all of the gentlemen become suspects, but the former Bow Street runner tasked with investigating the crime finds the evidence against Mr. Darcy particularly compelling.

Some fantastic reviews!

I had almost given up

Hey folks. I hope the sun is shining wherever you are and you and your family are doing well!

So, a little story – when I began publishing my book (like seriously) I thought I could get around four books out for my readers to enjoy. Turns out the first year (2019-2020), I did. Mainly because the books were already written and all I had to do was polish them and put them out there and make sure people find them. But things really started looking challenging in the second year – that was 2020-2021. During this year I had two books out (Shadow Pandemic and Poseidon) which were written within 8 months from the first draft. During this year, I felt the weight of the work and the stress of getting the books up to mark (I do work full time). Also next month I am doing a free promotions for creatives.

Regardless of how prolific I am, my mind and my body began to tell me that this was too much and so did my friends. The year 2021 was hard, and I did not want to miss the preorders that I had set up and my own expectations. So when 2021 finished, I did what I always do, listen to my intuition which told me – do not put pressure on your creativity. So this year I decided not to put anything on preorder so that I could have a breather and the second thing I told myself that if I decided to write two books or three – and I only publish one – It won’t be the end of the world because I would be happy, and it would be up to the mark (in my standards). I would accept it and be happy with it.

When 2022 began I was excited and as I had planned, I began working on Shadow Fraction (the sequel to Shadow Pandemic). But this one was a tough one – mainly because I made a major change in the plot in January which resulted in several unplanned changes in the the book. Despite my best efforts, I felt that I was behind because the book was not coming together – there were plot holes and several things needed improvement. It had started getting to my nerves. In March 2022, I had decided to put this book back in the drawer if it did not come together like I wanted. Just one more month – I told myself and then if it didn’t work, I would go back to writing (Realm 3: Icarus). Mainly because Icarus is a long series, one book per year is my goal for this series and it is in demand.

By the end of March, I still did not see a light at the end of the tunnel and when draft 7 was done I decided that it was time to share this book with my editor and get her to have a look at it. Just clean it up a bit but kept in my mind that – this one may not come out this year and it was okay. It made me sad, but still I was okay with that.

The manuscript was returned to me after three weeks with so many changes and a comments that made me wanna puke. (Nothing against my lovely editor – she is just doing her job). This was it.

Grudgingly I went through the comments and did all the work that was needed (again telling myself – end of April and that is it. I am going to leave it.). It took me two weeks to work on the manuscript. However, before making my next decision, I did an audio check. (I listen to my books because it gives me a better idea of how it sounds). I was stunned. It sounded like – it was ready to go. After my first editor had gone through the book and I had updated it, I saw the difference. Before this I had been working on it for a long time, every day and I could not see the progress I was making. But my audio edit surprised me! I could not believe it! I was ready to give up on it. But within minutes I decided that this book would be out this year!

Moral of the story – It’s always good to keep a open mind. I am glad I did. I was ready to give up on the book (not forever) but for a while at least. To get my energy back. I decide not to beat myself for not finishing it – and decided it was not a failure but a delay. I had kept my expectations realistic, understanding the hours I could put in and gave myself the time, and flexibility. My efforts did bring out the best (I think) in the book which should be really entertaining for my readers. I still have a bit to do – like final edits, get the book cover ready and make a publishing plan. But now with the manuscript ready it seems doable.

I hope this encourages you to never give up and realize the amount of time and energy you can put into your project. Feel free to share your experiences!

Have a lovely day!

NEVER TO LATE TO BEGIN

I do not remember when was the first day or date when I started writing. I just know it was a long time ago. I do not think I had a personal computer. I used to write with pen and paper during breaks as I continued to do my medical degree. However, I do remember one thing. I used to read books, and then tell those stories to my friends in the evening. I also use to make up stories and share them with my friends. It was a form of entertainment and it kept us sane in the high stressed environment of ‘being the first’ or ‘being the best’ race. It was very common in my class (or even now) in India to be judged by your mark sheet and I never ‘levelled’ up to it because could not recite word to word as per text book. I understood every concept taught during the class and preferred to write in my own words. But that is not what the teachers wanted. So, you could say I was an average kid. I didn’t care.

There was another sin I constantly committed – I read fiction, crime fiction. It was considered a waste of time by many people (sorry to say – including my father). Trust me there were families out there who did and still do encourage their kids to read. It was just the environment I was in. My classmates couldn’t believe I read so much. Again, I cared little because reading was opening my eyes to a different vibrant world.

The truth is, I never wanted to be the first, or the best in my class. I just wanted to be me. To fit in. To care. To love. To be happy. To be independent. To see this wonderful world. Like any other human being (I think). And you know what – I have been a happy kid all my life!

Now back to writing – I distantly remember, one story coming to me in a dream. I was so excited that I shared it with a close friend and this was the first time someone said to me – “You should write this one.”

FREE WORLD WIDE UNTIL 8TH MAR 2022

The idea of writing a book might have occurred to me, but someone else saying it meant something different. I believe that comment encouraged me write my first book (Black Moon). After that, I wrote several with pen and paper. I think it was in the early 90’s that our family got a computer. I used to hide the fact from my family that I wrote and it was not until I could buy my own computer did my stories turn digital. Why didn’t I tell my family? I thought no one would care. Even today, they are not very much interested in my writing but they never discourage me. They are always supportive.

Back to the 90’s. Once I got a personal computer, I remember transferring my books from paper to computer. I do not know how I squeezed out the time for it, but I did! I finished my medical degree; I got a part time job. Although I wrote – I never sent any of my books to anyone but did try my hand on self-publishing (vanity press). Black Moon was first published in 2003, with absolutely no sales. Again, I didn’t care. I just wanted to see what happened. And I moved on, and wrote Calculated Murder (then called Curious Case of Mr. Moss) and Haunted (previous name even I cannot remember). There are multiple books still in my hard drive that I haven’t looked at for several years.

I wouldn’t have taken any action, but after my father passed away, something drove me to create better books and that lead to the launch and publication of Haunted. I republished Black Moon in 2020 and since then it has been selling successfully.

The moral of the story is – you will never fit in anyone’s frame.  If I tried to give up on rewriting concepts in my own words, and recited like other students to gain more marks – who knows I might have lost my creative edge. Or I may have not. I do not know and I do not want to know! Since I have taken publishing seriously, several times I have thought – I should have done this early. But you know when the time the right, it is right and it is never too late.

Hope you have a great day – and Black Moon is for FREE world wide. So, pick up your copy from any Amazon marketplace before 8th March 2022.

Poseidon (Realm book 2) – Blogging about books!

After the Fall, all is left is blood and revenge.

The destruction of the perimeter, and the vanishing of Titan and Prometheus has left the Realm open to invaders. With a skeleton fleet guarding the outer rims of the solar system, all hopes of defeating the Orias queen have diminished. Now it’s about survival. But in a corner of cold dark space, hope lingers. I am sharing a review from one of my readers, I hope you enjoy it. Please like the post and support! Thanks!

Poseidon is the second installment in the Realm series by the magnificent HG Ahedi. I love sci-fi so dang much, and books like this just scratch all the right places in my brain. They make me giddy and nostalgic for the times when Star Trek and Doctor Who used to just play in the background of our house. My birth-dad was obsessed with these shows, and it kind of bled into my brain. Continue Reading – Amy’s review

Turn Difficult Situations Into Lessons to Empower Yourself

Hey folks!

Today, like most of Sundays, I was listening to the podcasts. I came across an old episode of the #selfpublishing show hosted by Mark Dawson and James Blanch. Fantastic folks! This episode featured author, editor, coach, and podcaster Hilary Jastram. This very prolific author who not only writes books but also helps other author develop their own work. She really inspired me. She suffers from an untreatable disease which limits her ability to the use of her legs, and yet she is the most jolly, enthusiastic and positive person. I am clearly surprised and delighted. I am currently myself facing some challenges and listening to her story and how she turns her challenges into a way to pave a way to make a better life for herself. This podcast is not only for authors, I believe, it will help anyone who is trying finding their path.

I really like how she spoke about how to get out of your own way. Many times our own thoughts block our path (rather than other people) and I believe Hilary gives excellent points.

You should check this one out!
